Wednesday 6 November and a dull afternoon at the Doncaster Yearling Sales. David was the only Blakeney Breezes member present and managed this shot of Petal in the outside ring using his mobile phone.
Petal behaved impeccably and was viewed a number of times, but buyers were scarce at Doncaster and David had to start the bidding, which only reached £1,500. She was knocked down to Newark trainer Mike Appleby and two of his owners Terry Pryke and Mike Golding, who seemed delighted with their bargain.
Three weeks later Barbara and David went to visit Petal at Mick's Hillside Equestrian Centre near Danethorpe. They found Petal as friendly and laid back as ever; she had obviously settled in well in her new home and was coping with the experience of being long-reigned. Petal has a box with other youngsters in a quiet part of the yard, but from where she can watch the goings on at the entrance to the main barn and yard office.
Importantly Mick confirmed that he would retain equal shares in Petal with
Terry and Mike, leaving 40% share for the Blakeney Breezes.

Sunday 15 December and Carol with husband Mike go to visit Petal and meet the team at Danethrope.
They found Petal in really good spirits and took this photo of Petal showing that she is really starting to look the part of a serious racehorse.
She has been backed and is walking in the school with a rider up learning to do figures of eight and taking it all in her stride. Her lad was full of praise for her lovely temperament, he said she was a little buzzy when he first gets on but after that she does everything that is asked of her. He thinks she is quite forward.
Carol was sure Petal has grown since she last saw
her and this was confirmed by Mick Appleby who said
she was still growing and that she had a good
conformation.
