Having decided we needed to give our lovely filly foal a suitable stable name,
we settled on Petal from a selection put forward by syndicate members.
So here is Petal at 54 days old, visited and photographed by Jan and John.
They were joined by Jan's son William and his Russian Mother-in-law Irina, who
put Julian right on the correct pronounciation of Archipenko - it is
Ah-heee-pen-ko an Ukranian surname!
Petal is growing up fast and really enjoying the fabulous March weather.
Doesn't she look like her dad, Monsieur Bond!
Below Jan enquires of Jasmine Breeze as to how she got on with Archipenko
the day before, and gives her a big love watched by Irina.
After which mischevious Petal tries to entice one of the other foals to play.

A week later and Petal is now two month old.
On Good Friday, David and Barbara visited Grove Farm to see our mare and foal, joined by Jan and John. After a frosty
start the horses were keen to be out in their paddock in the sunshine with their friends.
All the mares were happy to accept treats in the form of
apples brought by Barbara, who had a kiss from petal.
And of course Jan gave lots of attention to Jasmine Breeze.

Over ten weeks old now and Petal showed she had put on another spurt of growth, when Tony and David went to visit her on the second day of the Craven meeting at Newmarket.
It had rained not long before we arrived, which is why Petal still looks somewhat damp.
But the wet did not dampen the high spirits shown by all the mares and foals in the paddock, who were making the most of the softer ground, kicking up their heels and charging around.
Jasmine Breeze was seen launching herself energetically with
all four legs in the air, though she still shows no signs yet
of coming back into season.

Coming up for the end of May and Patal is now three months old. Look at the size of her now, with Barbara and Jan; still with a rather woolly bear look.
Jasmine Breeze and Petal looked really well in the sunshire, in their paddock with their friends.
Laid back and as friendly and curious as ever. Petal and
Jasmine Breeze take a great interest in Tony's lecture on
the finer points of equine photography!

Mid-June and Petal is now over four months old. She is taking the current rainy weather in her stride and is at last starting to loose her woolly look.
Jan, David and Barbara went to see Petal and Jasmine Breeze and took these photos. Anne had brought our horses into the stable so we could get up close to say hallo, without being disturbed by fencing repairs.
But they were keen to get back to their paddock and find their
friends. Just look how big the foal is compared with Mum,
who demonstrates a good roll to Petal and the other foals.

Early July and Petal is now five months old; she will be weaned in a few week's time, weather permitting.
Supported by Helen, the syndicate turned out in force to see our mare and foal, and afterwards to discuss the way forward.
Despite continued wet weather, we found both Jasmine Breeze and Petal in good health, laid back and happy to be made a fuss of. Petal is friendly, inquisitive and happy to be photographed.
It looks as though Lexington Blue will make his
racecourse debut at Southwell on the 16th of
July in a 6 furlong Auction Maiden Stakes.

It's now the end of July and Petal is nearly six month old.
The weather is warm and sunny, the paddocks have dried out and Petal is ready to be weaned.
This is the last time we shall see Petal and her frinds with their mares.
Both Petal and Jasmine Breeze are looking really well, a
little bored perhaps but otherwise happy and contented.
Jasmine Breeze certainly looks as if her Archipenko foetus
is developing nicely.
